We Will Miss You Ole

Day : 26 May 1999, Stadium : Nou Camp, Barcelona, Occasion : UEFA Champions League Final between Manchester United and Bayern Munich. Manchester United fans erupted with joy as Teddy Sheringham equalized in injury time. Everyone was preparing for extra time. But, it was time for history to be created. This is the piece of commentary, I can hear over and over again-"Is this their moment? Beckham...in to Sheringham and Solskjaer has won it. Manchester United reach the promise land. Ole Solskjaer...The two substitutes have scored the two goals in stoppage time and the Treble looms large."

Today marks the end of an era at Old Trafford. The Baby Faced Assassin Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has decided to call it quits after months of struggle with a knee injury. Thats the way football goes. At the start of a new campaign, there are departures at a club. You wish those players good luck and get on with it. But, there are some players you wish would stay forever at the club. Ole was one such player. His commitment towards the club is unparalleled. He was one of those players who valued the red shirt more than anything else. His contribution towards the club has been immense. The winner in that historic game at Nou Camp is one of the golden moments, Ole enjoyed during his tenure at Old Trafford.

Thank you Ole for the sweet memories. You will remain in the hearts of the United fans forever. We will miss you.

The Chasing Game Begins

Why Manchester United always do things the hard way? I don't think anyone can answer this question.

The season kicked off with a lot of anticipation in the air. Manchester United were hosting Reading. It was one of those games in which ball wouldn't find the back of the net. The Reds had a lot of shots on goal but couldn't score. It ended 0-0, certainly not the start Man Utd had hoped for. The worst part of the game was that Wayne Rooney got injured and he won't be in action for the next two months. This prompted Sir Alex to bring Tevez straight into the starting 11 against Portsmouth at Fratton Park. With Saha and Solskjaer injured as well, Man Utd had a few options up front. Tevez showed a lot of promise on his debut and set Scholes up for Man Utd's first goal of the season. The joy of scoring a goal didn't last long as Pompey equalized just after half time. Man Utd were the dominant team once again but couldn't score when it mattered most. Another match ended in a draw. Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off during the game and he is suspended for the next 3 games.

The season has just started and Man Utd find themselves in dire straits. They are four points behind Chelsea and the catching up has already begun. It has been poor stuff but there is no reason why the Reds can't fight back from this horrible situation. Its time for the big boys to step up their game. Manchester derby is the game for players like Giggs, Scholes and Tevez to start winning things for Man Utd this season.

When was the last time Man Utd kicked off their season with 2 disappointing draws? It was the 1998-99 season. Man Utd went on to win the treble that year. May this team also achieve similar success.

UNITED WE STAND, UNITED WE WIN.
